Hey, Those are some pricey footballs. What makes them so expensive?
If you're looking for a run of the mill football, I recommend a rock hard, all leather Wilson. They are made in America from leather specially formulated by Horween of Chicago. They are mass produced and standardized for competitive play. The NFL version will set you back between $85.00 and $100.00. Contrast that with a LEATHER HEAD™ football. Each LEATHER HEAD™ is hand made, one at a time by a skilled and consciencious craftsman. They are rugged and beautiful, being designed to appeal to many of your five senses. When you buy a LEATHER HEAD™ football, you know you are getting the work of a dedicated American craftsman. You are also getting an heirloom quality football that will only improve with use.
Why do I need a LEATHER HEAD ™ Handsome American Football?
Everyone needs a trusted companion.
LEATHER HEAD™ footballs are the official football of collegiate tailgating. They're charming, smart, and good looking. They're fun and tough too. Comfortable on display, or in your office, but they're only truly happy outdoors, in the middle of the action.
What more could you want in a friend?
Who makes LEATHER HEAD™ footballs?
I do. LEATHER HEAD™ footballs are made to order. When an order is placed, I head to my workshop, pull out a side of leather and begin the satisfying, manly process of hand crafting a football. With custom made cutting dies, I hand cut the leather panels on a manual die press. The panels are sewn together inside out, and the assembled football shell is inverted (watch the video here). A new rubber bladder is inserted and the ball is laced together with rawhide lace. With care, the ball is gently inflated by hand. Finally, in a solemn ceremony, each new LEATHER HEAD™ football is imbued with the heart of an Eagle and soul of a warrior.
How big are LEATHER HEAD™ footballs?
LEATHER HEAD™ footballs are designed to be slightly smaller than an NFL ball.
I wanted to create an exceptional ball that the average size person could hold and throw.
LEATHER HEAD™ footballs are about 19.5 inches around the middle, which is the standard size of a "youth" football.
Where do you get your leather?
I have a several sources of leather. I prefer American tanned leather and two of my favorite tanneries are Horween in Chicago and Prime in Hartland, Maine.
Can you personalize items?
Yes. LEATHER HEAD™ footballs make great groomsman's gifts. Items can be laser engraved or even branded with a custom branding iron. A few samples of my custom work can be seen here.

Can I Sell LEATHER HEAD™ footballs in my store? LEATHER HEAD™ footballs are available online and through a small group of carefully considered retail stores. I'm interested in working with shop owners who want to put some effort behind the promotion of LEATHER HEAD™ products. For my part, I particularly enjoy brainstorming ways to customize my products for individual retailers. To discuss a collaboration, contact me with your proposal.
I play vintage base ball. Are LEMON BALL™ baseballs historically accurate?
They're beautiful and they're more than tough enough withstand the rigors of outdoor play, but I claim no historic authenticity for LEMON BALL™ baseballs.
They are 8.5 inches in circumference and 3.5 ounces.
